Ensemble for Non-Linear Time

Ensemble for Non-Linear Time (2019- 2023) is an exploration of speculative fiction as a process and rupture as a protagonist, made in collaboration with choreographer Hope Mohr, dancers Belinda He, Irene Hsi and Karla Quintero, performing artists Beatriz Escobar, Sunroop Kaur and Claudia Soares and sound artists Charlotte Law and Mike Maurillo. Our work evolved by engaging imaginary forests in residencies and workshops that put dance, visual art and social practice in conversation. Forests hold dynamics of survival, histories of colonization and lush internal spaces of desire, leading us in  imagining differently tuned worlds.

The Ensemble created performances at 836 M San Francisco (2022), 18th Street Arts Center Los Angeles (2023), and the San Jose Museum of Art (2023). Film installations have been presented in Dear Future, Mukherjee's solo exhibition 18th Street Arts Center Los Angeles (2022-3), Natasha, Singapore Biennial 2022, and the Art, Process, and Ideas Residency Exhibition at the Mills College Art Museum, Oakland (2023). This work has been generously supported by 836M San Francisco; ARTogether Oakland; 18th Street Arts Center, Santa Monica; the Lucas Visual Arts Fellowship at Montalvo Center for the Arts; Mills College Art Museum, Oakland; Gallery Wendi Norris and California College of the Arts FIlm Programs.
